Energy efficient lighting is here to stay and offers significant benefits. As with any developing technology the products currently available eclipse their predecessors and it is important to keep up to date so that the products chosen do the job as well as possible.

With the raising costs of electricity and the phase out of old tungsten lamps most have switched over to LED lamps. However this now means that rather than just picking the wattage of lamp one requires, customer have a choice in colour and if the lamp is dimmable or not.

Some clients are not realising that even with having selected a dimmable lamp that it will not work with their existing dimmer as the modern LED compatible dimmers work differently to the old tungsten dimmers which causes LED lamps to flicker and cut out.

We supply and fit LED lamps and dimmers that will cope with the number of LED lamps on the dimmer and set it to dim correctly preventing any flickering or cutting out.

Old fluorescent fittings can now be replaced with LED battens and save 40 to 60% on energy used. These also have no flicker which used to affect some.

The import of CFL ( Compact Fluorescent Lamps ) and small halogen lamps will be banned in February 2023 and other fluorescent tubes will be banned in September 2023 meaning the repair of fluorescent fittings is generally uneconomical.

Lighting and our eyes getting older:

As we grow older our eyes change and react differently to the light around us. Simply putting a brighter lamp does help but there is more that can be done to aid people see better as we get older. Contact us for more information on how we have been aiding our clients with this.
