Estimates and Quotations
Estimates and quotations are free if we have the necessary information from you. For all types of I/T work this can usually be given over the phone, but for installation work there are two essential pieces of information which cannot usually be given by phone:
- The supply characteristics
- The schedule of works required
Also the proposed work often involves adding to an installation and then an assessment of some aspects of the existing will also be needed – as required by British Standards (BS7671). Unless we have current details on file it will mean a site visit to obtain the necessary information.
We are happy to make such visits and often we can obtain the information very quickly. It also gives us the opportunity to discuss your requirements and give any advice you may want. Sometimes, however, it may be necessary to carry out a detailed investigation in order to give you a quotation. This investigation would be chargeable at an agreed rate.
Basically we need to know where we are starting from so please dont ask us to price installation work over the phone. We want to get it right from the beginning and not give you nasty surprises later!
The alternative is to agree that unforseen items, possibly needing urgent attention, may crop up during the course of our work and these would be outside the quotation.
You can find a very useful model quotation request for domestic electrical work form on the Electrical Safety Council web site. Download it, print it off, and fill it out as far as you can. This will help you give a full specification, allow us to understand your requirements, and allow better comparison of prices. Once you have received your quote/estimate we are always happy to discuss different options which would help you meet any budget restrictions.
Initial and Call-out charges
We make an initial charge on all planned work to cover travel and administration. Time on site is then charged in five minute increments, not by the hour, as we believe this is the fairest way. Hence if your problem is a straightforward one and we only spend fifteen minutes sorting it out you would be invoiced the initial charge plus fifteen minutes. The initial charge is zoned from our base near Canterbury.
A call out charge is made where a visit is wanted the same day – usually for an emergency. This increased charge takes into account the disruption to our planned work or the out of hours timing and will usually result in a visit within one hour of making the call.
We are happy to give whatever information you require about our charges. Please ask when making the call.
Recycling
We are registered with the Environment Agency for waste disposal and will always dispose of waste generated during the course of your work to leave your property clean and tidy. Wherever possible this will be done by recycling.
Cancellation Rights
You have statutory rights of cancellation of work. For full current details please use the link to the consumer direct government web site – http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
